Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has opened the door for Leroy Sane to leave the club this summer. The Germany international has been earmarked as the prime attacking target for Bayern Munich but the Bundesliga side have resisted against making an approach until they get the green light from the player himself.

Speaking to reporters, Guardiola said that Sane was rewarded with a new deal at the club last year but the German decided to turn down the advances. He added that he wants a happy bunch of players within the squad and anyone feeling unsettled can head through the exit door, he said:“The club made him an offer last year. We want people happy to be here. We are going to help him to the best we know-how, (to realise) his potential. The desire to have him to be with us is always there. I spoke to the club 10 times (to say) that I want people here to be happy if they don’t want, they go.”

Sane was a regular for the Citizens during their first Premier League title under Pep Guardiola and he was named in the PFA Team of the Year while winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He continued to command a regular role during the first half of the 2018/19 campaign but the same was not the case at the backend, where he was dropped to the bench.

Between January and May, Sane was restricted to just five starts in the top-flight and the same situation transcended in the Champions League, where he managed just seven minutes during the Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. Sane currently has two years remaining on his contract and the next few weeks could give a clear idea whether he would be tempted by a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern.
